South Indian Filter Chicory Coffee isn’t just a drink, it’s a ritual steeped in tradition. Nick of Time’s Kaapi, the classic Madras filter brew, blends coffee and chicory into a smooth, earthy cup loved across generations. Its signature taste comes from the slow filter method, balanced with hot milk and finished with a frothy pour. What is chicory powder? Chicory powder is made from roasted and ground chicory root. Known for its woody, caramel-like flavor, it is commonly used as a caffeine-free coffee substitute. To prepare filter coffee, add 1–2 tablespoons of the blend to the filter, pour hot water, and let the decoction drip. Mix with equal parts hot milk, froth by pouring back and forth, and sweeten to taste. The result is a mellow, slightly nutty brew with gentle bitterness and lower caffeine, crafted from premium AA Grade Arabica beans.

HOW TO MAKE : Put 4tbsp of coffee powder evenly in the filter. Place the steel coffee place holder on the top of the powder. Add 120ml of hot water to it. Brew for 20-25mins for immediate use or overnight (for a stronger brew) for the entire coffee decoction to drip into the lower chamber. In each cup pour 25ml of decoction, 75ml of hot milk and sugar if desired. Adjust the ratio according to your taste and preference. Serve in a traditional South Indian Dabarah.
